Reflecting on how Citi Bike has redefined community and continued to advocate for equitable transportation in a momentous 2020.
At Citi Bike, equity means a transportation system designed to increase access, comfort, and usage of bike share within historically underserved communities. We achieve our equity goals via community engagement, building strong, inclusive relationships with the local government, local leaders, advocacy groups, nonprofits, and other community members. Together, we’re creating pathways for Citi Bike to become a valued community resource.
We expanded Citi Bike stations into socially and economically diverse communities during COVID-19, giving more people access at a time when safe transportation was increasingly essential. Our team is committed to caring for our communities and continuing to serve as a resource.
We also held virtual town halls in multiple languages, introduced a first-ride-free initiative with Healthfirst to tackle barriers to access, and cultivated our community through local events and partnerships. And we welcomed a new cohort into a pair of programs, offering funding via Community Grants and free rides to local nonprofits via Partner Keys.
Reduced Fare Bike Share members rode 2.6 million miles with Citi Bike.
832,951 rides started and/or ended in expansion areas in the Bronx, Washington Heights, and Harlem.
Our First Ride Free campaign helped set a single-day ridership record of 103,139 rides on September 12, 2020.
Over 1,000 people participated in 19 community events (virtually and in-person) held by the Citi Bike team this year.
250 free Citi Bike Annual Memberships were given to small businesses as part of our Resilient Neighbors initiative.
Thank you for being a part of our Citi Bike community! We look forward to riding with you in 2021.
