What is Citi Bike?

Citi Bike is a revolutionary new way for you to get around New York City, scheduled to launch summer 2012. Bike sharing expands your transportation options; it empowers you to go your own way.

Citi Bike is a self-service system that provides members with easy access to a network of thousands of bicycles. Pick up a bike close to home or work, ride, then return it to any of the hundreds of stations to be located throughout the city.

Citi Bike will consist of 600 stations, 10,000 bikes in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. It is to be privately sponsored by Citi and MasterCard and privately operated by NYC Bike Share LLC, with no public funding.

It’s more than just a different way to get to work. 54% of all trips New Yorkers make are less than two miles. Bike share will make these trips cheap, easy, efficient and fast. Bike share also leverages the city's great mass transit system, extending the reach of transit into areas which aren't easily accessed. Sustainable, convenient, expeditious and safe – Citi Bike will benefit you and your community.
